Konpa (aka Kompa, Compas) is a Haitian Musical Genre founded by Nemours Jean Baptiste in the mid-1950s. Originally it was music that consisted of the cowbells, tabou, conga drums, saxophones and trumpets, guitar, piano accompanied by couples dance. It is Haiti’s social music. There are different genres of Konpa from Konpa Direkt , Nouvel Generasyon, Konpa Gouyad, the genre is constantly evolving. Other musical genres have been created from Konpa, such as Zouk and Kizomba. You can hear the evolution of Kompa from listening to musical acts Septentrional Haiti, Tropicana, Tabou Combo to Zin, T-Vice, Carimi to 5lan, Joe Dwet File,Rutshelle, Enposib and Kai. The Konpa influence can also be heard in the music of French artists, Kaysha Tayc, Aya Nakamura, Dadju, etc.
